  1. This, Toranado and Turkey Bob did some testing for us. I have loaded both 11.6 and 12.4 in STS hulls but use a taller wad than what they tested to get a better stack height. 11.6 would be by go to when my clay dot stash is gone. tested some 38spl but got pretty erratic results with lite loads so I abandoned the idea for now. Maybe others have had better luck Toranado, SASS # 58447 Posted December 22, 2023 As I start to run out of my favorite Shotshell powder Clays, and refuse to pay the $40plus price per pound for Claydot where available, I did some searching a few months ago and bought some Hodgdon Perfect Pattern powder as it had some loads listed that may make it a good alternative for cowboy shotgun powder. PLUS IT SELLS FOR ABOUT $27 PER POUND if you buy 8# from like powdervalley, but I also just picked up another 8#er at Sportsman's Warehouse for about the same price. I asked my good friend and club TG, Turkey Bob to do some test loads as I drove off to sunny Arizona and left him back here in Chicago! (just trying to keep him busy in that midwestern cold weather!! LOL). Well he did a pretty comprehensive testing data along with chronographing all the loads. The results are posted below, and the conclusion is, it makes a really good cowboy round for shot shells. I've included my usual loads for comparison along with some factory rounds testing he did. I'll probably when I start loading it use the load that gets just over 900 fps, (13a) but enjoy the data and hope it helps. It's a very fine powder so uses some small bushings, but the rounds knocked down our toughest shotgun targets during testing also.
  2. I had a couple canvas belts made, 1 for 45-70 and 1 for 38-55. Not the fanciest but work fine for the couple times a year they get used. Not sure of current pricing but I paid well under your $175 a couple years ago. Contact Wayne at stitches.5dogscreek.com LF.
  3. Communication was not good for this match. Most clubs post a schedule of events on there club sight and follow up with an email. Shouldn’t have to search a Facebook posting to find out what’s going on at a major match. LF.
  4. Thank you Turkey Legs and the Rock River Regulators for putting on a great state match. Congratulations to all the winners!! Turkey Legs and Foyster O’ Rippy state champs. LF.
  5. Looks like it came through 3 times. I will get a response back shortly. Thanks, LF.
  6. Up for sale is a JM Marlin CB in 32 mag. This gun is NIB, never fired. Only a few hundred of these were produced, pretty rare to find one in this condition. $2000 plus shipping and insurance to your FFL. First I’ll take wins. Thanks, LF
  7. Dirtbag is probably up, he text me at 3am claiming to be Bogus Deal about an item he was selling. We only communicated details about the sale through pm so wondered how the dirtbag got my info. Google search brought up a post from 2017 that had my contact info listed. LF
  8. Might try Wayne, I have had him make a few canvas belts for my nephew and new shooters. Price is right and turn around has always been pretty quick….like within a week.
  9. Mattsbullets.com Looks like a few lite weight options.
  10. I picked one up for my Dillon to try with clays and clay dot. Both are a pretty course flake which gives inconsistent drop weights. Been shooting it for years without issue but thought I would see if one of these would tightened up the drop variations. Couple observations, the unit itself is quiet however the rattling of the powder drop is annoying. Tried it on a couple different measures , some are looser than others and rattle more. Middle setting on the vibration seemed to give the best consistency, instructions stated corse powder might need more vibration. Had to adjust the powder throw lower with the vibration on to get my desired charge. Example, no vibration it would throw 2.8, same setting with vibration on it would throw 3.1. Assuming the vibration is packing the powder which makes sense. I did get less variation in powder drops with the vibration on so that is a plus. Will need to play around with the vibration settings and maybe switch the powder drop with one that has less rattle to cut down on the noise. Hopefully I can find the sweet spot of consistent drops and not a ton of annoying rattle. LF
  11. Sounds like something is not adjusted/tight with your powder drop. Unless trailboss has changed it’s pretty fluffy like little donuts. I occasionally still load a few low volume on the Lee and get some blow by on fine powder but rarely any on the big flaky stuff. I would recheck equipment first, try another disk. Disks get worn, may have a slight low spot?? LF
  12. Procast bullets is making a 38/357 RN hollow backed 97gr bullet. Might be what you’re looking for? Dirty to load because they have some kind of Molly coating but they seem to shoot okay. LF.
