The below video is from an encounter 2nd Lt Robert S Johnson had early in his combat tour.  He had been verbally reprimanded several times prior to this flight for going off on his own and not covering his flight  lead.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_S._Johnson#Near-fatal_engagement

 

No other Allied fighter in the West could have taken that much punishment and survived.

Entertaining, and perfectly acceptable, in my opinion ~ every bit as much as any re-enactment or historical dramatic production.

You mean that Johnson didn't have a cellphone camera, a selfie stick and six camera planes in a WWII dogfight?
