Buckshot Bear
G'day all, Brand new Lee .44-40 dies just opened, just wondering what this hole is for?
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
Vent hole to release pressure and excess lube, without which the case can have lube dents.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Yep. Bottleneck case sizer dies usually have the vent to keep extra lube from putting a dent into the shoulder. Dies for straight wall cases don't need one - no shoulder. good luck, GJ
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Just make sure it is oriented correctly. Above the equator the hole should be facing forward. Below the equator it should be facing backwards.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
Interesting! I never noticed a blow hole before. Hard to see on my RCBS Cowboy die and the Lyman die used previously doesn’t have one at all.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Lyman probably will tell you - don't use so much case lube, if you are denting cases. good luck, GJ
