Texas Lizard Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 What size round ball??? I only shot 44s...This is new to me....Almost forgot...Do they run normal caps, like my Rem number 10 Texas Lizard
Three Foot Johnson Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I have three 1849's, and cast balls with a Lee 319RB mold. IIRC, they drop slightly smaller than .319", but work fine. I think .323" is what's recommended, and I've heard of folks using .330" 00 Buckshot. I have a 5# box of Hornady 00/.330" buck, and it's too large. Nipples are the same size as every other C&B revolver I own.
Carolina Gunslinger Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 O Buck is the pellet you seek. That's .32 diameter.
J-BAR #18287 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Buckshot is harder than pure lead. It works fine in a cap gun if you are charging the chambers off the gun in a separate press. I bent the loading lever on a 1851 Navy trying to load it with 0000 buckshot. If you plan to load the chambers while the cylinder is in the gun, stick with pure lead balls. Remmie #10 caps are fine as long as they fit your gun’s nipples. You may find that you need to use aftermarket nipples for good cap fit as well as eliminating spent cap jams.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 TL: Get aftermarket nipples. Treso makes one for the Italian .31 cap guns 5-pack #11-50-305 Here's where I get mine: https://possibleshop.com/s-s-nipples.html --Dawg
