10 Pistol Shots, multiple pistols

Recommended Posts

On a typical stage, we have to shoot 10 pistol shots. We do this by using 2 revolvers with 5 shots each.

Makes perfect sense. No reason to change that.

But, and this is highly speculative and just for fun, would be interesting to informally "allow" a pard to use 1 "main match" revolver for the first 5 shots, and then get the second five off with a combination of a pocket pistol and a derringer?

Anyone who would do this would be at a severe handicap, and would likely only be viable for someone who just wanted to have some fun by "mixing things up" a little at a match.

No new category needed. Just an informal variation.

In the off-season, over the winter, we do fun matches with pretty much anything you want, staying within velocity limits and lead bullets, of course. But it's Montana, with low population density and plenty of snow & cold, so it's not unusual to only have half a dozen or so brave the weather. One winter match this season only drew 3 shooters, IIRC. Double action revolvers, semi-auto pistols, semi-auto rifles (I've used a semi-auto Thompson), revolving rifles (Yep, got one o' those too), semi-auto shotguns, rimfires, illegal gauges; .410, 28g, etc. Whatever you want to shoot.

During our regular matches though, such a thing as you suggest would never fly.

I like shooting a match Josey Wales style on some occasions. Five pistols, wearing three with two staged. We had a pard Eeyore shoot the match yesterday wearing four C&B revolvers, two of them buntlines and a SG for SG knockdowns. His dad wore 5 pistols and shot Josey Wales also.
