Paden
I saw Dodge City (again) made in 1939 and for the first time realized the pants had no belt loops and the belts and holsters were period correct. So how come they (Hollywood) stopped making westerns with this detail in mind? Paden
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171
The glitz and glamor of actors like Tom Mix probably. Flashy sells tickets then as now.
SGT. QUINCANNON, SASS #32999
Historic accuracy is not necessarily a film-making virtue. Remember, when the legend becomes fact, PRINT THE LEGEND!
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
Most of the wardrobe and firearms, saddles, etc. belonged to the studios and were originals. Most of the physical assets like those were sold off years later and now they are rented from prop houses. There was a stronger connection to the then recent past and most films of that era had authentic equipment pictured. As an example, many years later when Mel Torme' (who was a Colt collector) was a guest on one of the Lucy TV shows, he visited the prop department and found, and bought, a first generation Colt revolver from the company. Trailrider #896
Too bad Mel's ex cleaned him of the collection...or it's value! Used to see him at the Beinfield collectors' show in Vegas once in awhile.
