Clancy O'Conall, SASS #75088
I have two NIB Uberti's in 45 LC, a 73' Carbine and 73' Rifle, that I took out and shot for the first time this afternoon. They function well except for one thing, the empty cases barely clear the gun and roll over the side instead of throwing them up high like my 38 guns. Wondering how to tune the extractor/ejector if that is possible. Also, wondering how far the firing pins should protrude past the bolt face. They didn't pierce the primers, but they both put pretty good dents in them if that might be an issue. Both guns have been disassembled and cleaned prior to shooting, boy those stock screws were tight, yikes. Anyway, thanks for any help in advance. Cliff Hanger #3720LR
The 60, 66 and 73s eject by the force the lever is opened. The 38 cases being lighter than the 45s will take less effort than the 45s.
Johnny Meadows,SASS#28485L
Timing of the action can have a big effect on ejection. You might look at Mauraders site to see if he has instructions on checking the timing. Johnny Meadows
Colorado Coffinmaker
As previously answered, the force of the lever snapping the Carrier Block up determines how far the case travels. There is no real mechanism to "tune" the carrier to kick the cases higher. It can be expected the heavier weight of the .45 case and the drag of the Carrier Block may well slow the ejection. It's not really all that unusual for the cases to dribble over the side on a new rifle. Firing pin extension beyond the breach face of the Breach Block (bolt) should be around 50 or 60 Thou. Uriah, SASS # 53822
I have a Rossi 92 Winchester cases barely clear the action. Remington cases are fine. I know the two actions are different, just saying the two cases are different. Uriah
Blackey Cole
Also must guns require a break in period depends on the gun how many rounds that is most require between 100-500 rounds before a pattern of operation can be identified.
Coyote Cap, SASS Life #14184
Look at your rim thickness and headspacing. Could be your ammo has thicker rims and that combined with being tightly held against the bolt face will cause the spent round to hang up on the bolt more than normal. Get out your calipers and measure the rims of your cartridges, then find some other cartridges with thinner rims and try those. You really shouldn't need to bang the lever real hard to get strong ejection (although it helps), because to bang the lever real hard, can draw your front sight off target - - - and that can be worse than poor ejection. (Check all sorts of ammo first) ! "Cap"
