Used to fish Pickwick Lake, AL for SMB quite a bit. We'd take a piece of foam soaked in anise oil and put it on the hook of a spinner bait or 3" tube; smallies love that stuff especially in murky water.

Gar eat good as well. A friend has developed a good way to get them out of their skin. Uses a steel bar and aircraft cable. The guts must be removed with out damage then the meat is cut into cubes and deep fat fried. Even better than rattlesnake.

From where I sit, that ain't saying much, Noz. I take a good beef prime rib steak anyday.

me too. but there's a lot of good food out there that is ignored because of folklore.

Gar balls made from alligator gar are a delicacy in the bayous.

German carp were brought to this country because they were considered a very fine food fish.

One of the finest casseroles I have ever eaten was a cajun style dish made with rice and chunked up bobcat.

An example: Every good hill billy kid knows that polk berries are deadly poison. Merely to touch one or get the juice on your clothes puts your life in jeopardy.

A young couple moved here from California. She wanted to blend in so she made some elderberry jelly and entered it in a local cooking contest. All of the judges agreed that it had the most unusual taste so they gave it first place in the jelly division. After everybody in the county had tasted it and agreed that it was a superb effort, further questioning of her revealed that she did not know the difference between polk berries and elder berries. Her jelly had no elderberries in it.

Another good myth shot to hell.

Getting ready to tie some bugs for Tyrel to try in slow water.

Been under the weather and need to get out for supplies.

Going for some woolie buggers in different colors and sizes for

lakes. They open first. Maybe tie some pheasant tails for the lakes also.

Got some new lines I want to try out too.

I have thought of making a stream fly rod , thinking something in a 3 or 4 wt , about 6'6" or so

think I have most everything to do it , except the drive

CB

What species you seeking and how big is the stream?

I'm thinking a glass 4 wt for LMB or Smallies. A 3 wt for Crappie or Blue gills.

You Devil! I said COFFEE!

Well, you do have a point, but I would

like to suggest that the liquor part tales

place after the boat is on the trailer and

the gun is in the safe.

Side note: I picked up a couple of 1/16 oz

jigs yesterday and will wrap them in feathers

over the weekend. Should be on their way to

you next week.

what ya wrapping ?

I was thinking of making a couple of blk / yellow

have no clue if they would catch fish anywhere else

CB

Bill, If I told you I would have to kill you.

I have some 1/16th black jig heads that will get a suit of

1. Speckled Chenille Pearl/Fluorescent green w/ a purple marabou tail

2. Speckled Chenille Midnight Fire w/ a purple or black marabou tail

3. Speckled Chenille Pearl/ Fluorescent Pink with a white marabou tail

Also will tie some 1X nymph hooks with a brass bead head in same colors.

These are deadly flies and MUST, I repeat MUST, be kept in a dark fly box until

ready to release into the water.
