Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Just get a bottle of Herring Oil and take Oly and Swen with you. Have a boat load in 1/2 an hour. Probably never get the smell out of the boat, but what the heck. You got fish.
Tyrel Cody
Used to fish Pickwick Lake, AL for SMB quite a bit. We'd take a piece of foam soaked in anise oil and put it on the hook of a spinner bait or 3" tube; smallies love that stuff especially in murky water. Noz
Gar eat good as well. A friend has developed a good way to get them out of their skin. Uses a steel bar and aircraft cable. The guts must be removed with out damage then the meat is cut into cubes and deep fat fried. Even better than rattlesnake.

Noz
From where I sit, that ain't saying much, Noz. I take a good beef prime rib steak anyday. me too. but there's a lot of good food out there that is ignored because of folklore. Gar balls made from alligator gar are a delicacy in the bayous. German carp were brought to this country because they were considered a very fine food fish. One of the finest casseroles I have ever eaten was a cajun style dish made with rice and chunked up bobcat. An example: Every good hill billy kid knows that polk berries are deadly poison. Merely to touch one or get the juice on your clothes puts your life in jeopardy. A young couple moved here from California. She wanted to blend in so she made some elderberry jelly and entered it in a local cooking contest. All of the judges agreed that it had the most unusual taste so they gave it first place in the jelly division. After everybody in the county had tasted it and agreed that it was a superb effort, further questioning of her revealed that she did not know the difference between polk berries and elder berries. Her jelly had no elderberries in it. Another good myth shot to hell.
