Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
well after looking into this , using a magafing glass with a light and the bifocals there is a tiny hole to run the leader through DANG , that be a small hole CB
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Looking and seeing the hole in the eye of the hook is a whole lot different than getting a size 7x tippet through it. I let you string on the flies and I will catch the fish.

Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
BMC I would assume , there be scuds (insect type) most everywhere one of the best flys is a Burlap bug , nothing but a burlap string , a bit of gold wire , body picked out just a bit have seen en with a peacock herl head of a brass bead CB
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Simple tie. Presentation is more to the heart of the game. Most folks tie them on curved hooks, but the scud is curved only when at rest or dead. Also, the natural color is gray, not pink like the grocery store kind. There is one variety of pink, but the majority of them are gray. I like a #10 or #12 hook, Twelve is best. Cut a 1/8" strip of clear plastic out of a sandwich bag for the back. Tie in some ribbing, I like copper or brass wire, and then dub a scraggy body, pull the plastic over it like a wing case, and bind with the wire. Tie off, and take a small brush and pull the dubbing down like legs. Trim as needed to clear the hook point Apply some Sally Hansen clear nail polish to the back for durability and shine. Be careful not to get the polish on the dubbing. Fish slow, I mean very slow, just off the weed beds. It is a sub surface fly and you want it down about 5 to 10 feet. Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Well, you got the whole spring to figure it out. I am going to be tying some for the spring fishing in lakes here, so I will wrap a few for you if you want them. I would think that a fly rod presentation would be optimal for presentation, but hey, I always say, go with what ya got. Woolie buggers might be a good bet for those Smallies also. Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
Badger the old english bait hooks , seem to KILL most every fish I hook with em , when dead drifted point right into the brain , so I no longer use em , I don't want to clean that many thinking it has something to do with the curve of the hook , that also provides a bit of swimming motion CB

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Herring Oil, the standby of old Norsky fishermen. Oly and Swen swear by it, I read the other day that the TV series THE VIKINGS is coming this month. I see a lot of ling ships in the production, but I don't see any fishing going on. What gives? Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
thinking back , I kinda recall a attractant , that I made back years ago contained Anise oil , almond extract , salt only problem , it would soften plastic but bass would hold on to a plastic worm for a long time would leave an oil slick when it hit the water CB
