That "70-Year Old Traffic Jam" Isn't Quite What It Seems To Be

Wow. Thanks for posting that. I wish I could see them in person.

Could easily have been from later years when whole battalions or larger units were given orders on short notice or individuals just could not unload their heaps before they shipped out.

Similar things happened stateside when sailors shipped out of Norfolk they simply abandoned cars which were later towed away

I recall using a few of those vehicles for target practice (later on a sanctioned range at Blackwater).

I've seen similar collections of cars all over Maryland and West Virginia. In every case, it was the relatives leaving cars at the old family farm for decade after decade, because the scrap price wasn't as much as the value of say, a water pump that might fit their tractor.

I recall looking at one collection in Berryville that required a half mile hike up a hill from the road to a copse of trees between two fields of crops. From the road, you only saw trees. Even from 15' away, all you saw were trees. I came to see a 1946 Packard. Up there were 40 cars ranging from a 1912 truck to a 1980's Granada. The owner told me the family just got into the habit of parking their heaps there when they bought a replacement. I didn't buy the Packard. It looked like it would fall to pieces if I tried to move it.
