Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Got lucky today. After a couple of stages I noticed I couldn't see my front sight. At the unloading table I noticed it was gone. Can't really see it most of the time, but can see the color of the brass rod I put on it. Found it, took it home and soldered it back in place. Was on my NM Vaqueros. Why was that luck? I've been on a few long distance trips with it and am going to EOT is a couple of weeks. It was genuinely lucky it fell out when I had a chance to fix it!!! YEEHAA, gettin ready for EOT.
Southpaw Gringo, SASS # 74217
Yep that was lucky! You got me thinking. Front sights on Vaqueros are soldered in from the factory or are they swedged in? Sorry if I hijacked this thread.....
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
It actually looks like it was induction brazed. Very strong but one of mine just didn't get a good bond.
Mad Dog Jack, SASS #77862
Yay! But sights are over rated........
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Yep, LP, had the same happen with one of my stainless (old style) Vaqueros. Silver solder put it back on securely. No difficulty with cleanup since the finish just polished back to match factory. Glad you caught it before you made the trek to the Wilds of New Mexico! See you soon. Good luck, GJ
Krazy Kajun
I bought a set of SASS Vaqueros when I first started shooting CAS 2 years ago. Both of the front sights were "wiggly loose" in the first year and I had a gunsmith to solder them back tight.
Preacherman
Funny this just came up as I just got my "new" SS new model Vaquero front sight put back on by a local smith today. It came off the first time I hit it with a file to adjust the point of aim then lost it. Ruger offered to fix it, but they'd ruin my new work done by a great cowboy gunsmith. Shipping was the same as a local fix and Ruger sent me a new one. Must be somewhat of a problem.
