Bow Creek Pete, SASS #56204
FOR SALE: UNIQUE CUSTOM LONG RANGE RIFLE BUILT FROM AN ORIGINAL 1884 TRAPDOOR WITH 1 1/8" PREMIUM 30" BADGER BARREL - C SHARPS VENIER REAR AND FRONT GLOBE SIGHTS - GERMAN SILVER NOSECAP - WEIGHS 13 3/4 POUNDS. HAVE TOO MANY 45-70 RIFLES AND NOW I HAVE ANOTHER RIFLE I "NEED". BITTERROOT JAKE, THE ORIGINAL OWNER, ADDED THIS: "I'll add a little infor on this rifle, I had this rifle cutom built in 1995 or 1996. Used it in about 8 or 9 matches. Like Bow Creek Pete just had so many 45-70's I never used it enough to keep so I finally traded it for something I might use a little more. The action on this rifle is secured by a guard screw through the forearm just at the end of the action. A block was welded to the front end of the action and drilled and tapped for a 10-32 screw. A stell pillar was put into the stock which the screw goes through. The barrel is free floated and not attached anywhere but the by the tang screw and the guard screw at the front of the action. The gun was built on an original action by Willie Boitnott (I hope I spelled his last name correctly), re-tired head armorer for the NMLRA,and former gunsmith for the US National Muzzleloading team." Cpt Dan Blodgett, SASS #75655
Is this not a rebarreled antique? Any of you smart guys know if it would qualify and thus not need to go thru a FFL?
Uriah, SASS # 53822
Just curious, how is the trigger. You must have a forend screw
Bow Creek Pete, SASS #56204
Just curious, how is the trigger. You must have a forend screw Rifle is pinned through the heavy nosecap and, if I remember correctly, glass bedded. Trigger must have been honed as it has some creep but breaks cleanly with a lot less pull than my other 3 trapdoors, H&R Officer's, H&R cavalry, and Original 1884. Professor Marvel
Is this not a rebarreled antique? Any of you smart guys know if it would qualify and thus not need to go thru a FFL? Technically, it is in fact the date of the manufacture of the receiver that determines the "bound book" rules and and "FFL staus" . If it has ever been entered into someones "bound book", whether a store, cruffler, or 'smith, it is often easier to continue the status. It is also up to the seller if they wish to go through an FFL holder to ensure "paperwork legal happiness" . I ran into that very issue on a rather nice stainless remmy replica with an R&D converter being sold bye a pawnshop online, who preferred to deal with an FFL since it had already been entered into their "bound book" , rather than correct the paperwork and ship the pieces separately (which is technically also correct and legal). confused? me too! I will stick with cap & ball .... yhs prof marvel

Bow Creek Pete, SASS #56204
How does it shoot? Bitterroot JakE, the original owner would have to be the cowboy to tell that. I have not shot the rifle as of yet. I cannot imagine with the set up this rifle has and the sweet trigger that this is not a shooter. Now listed on Gunbroker for a lot more. Dusty Morningwood
Is this not a rebarreled antique? Any of you smart guys know if it would qualify and thus not need to go thru a FFL? Antique receiver = no FFL required. Even Empire Arms ships pre-1898 Mosin Nagants, etc. right to your door.
