Evening Yall-

Thanks for the input on my previous post about the debate of an action job and I have decided to get one. I am looking for a good gun smith in the New England area, preferably Vermont or New Hampshire. I talked to Jimmy Spurs and he is not accepting new long guns because he has a years worth of back order. Are there any other gunsmiths in the area?

I am trying to keep it in the area to avoid shipping and all that, so any information would be greatly appreciate!

I think you're SOL if you don't want to ship the firearm.

Cody Conagher down in West Virgina does good work. That's probably the closest to you.

Cody has done both a 73 (45lc) and a 66 (45lc) for me and is currently doing a 73 (38 spl/357), trying to save some funds on ammo. I have been waiting about 3 months now, but I have the 45 lcs to use for right now.

If ya gotta go outta the area...then obviously I'm going to suggest the guy that builds Buds and Spences guns...and a whole lotta other folks that ain't to bad at this game:

My 73 is with Cody right now. I can not wait till it comes back next week. The shipping was not bad I paid UPS $30 and that was having $1500 insurance on the gun.

Jimmy Spurs lives in Derry, NH. His website is cowboygunworks.com. His work is some of the best out there. Check out his speed rifle video on YouTube. He often has quiet a backlog of guns to tune, but he might work you in his schedule.

Jimmy also does great work on all other cowboy guns. The Uberti Thunderer that he did for me is one of my favorite guns now.

I appreciate the info, but as mentioned before I already contacted Jimmy and he has a year back log, hence my whole issue of having to look else where. I feel I will be going with Cody, he has great prices and I have heard a lot of positive reviews. O well, guess I will have to ship!

C&I, Longhunter and Cody (to name a few) all do great work.

Cody's action job felt most natural to me,so that was my choice.

In the last year I've had Longhunter do both of my 38/357 73's.Didn't go the shortstroke route but opted for the action job.I figure that rifle will work faster than I can move anyway. He does EXCELLENT work,is very reasonable, will tell you up front about how long it will be to get it back and also calls you when he starts it with a finish date.
