. . . virus attack . . .

Recommended Posts

Hi pards . . . if you've ever exchanged e-mails with me . . .

. . . don't open any attachment that comes from my e-mail account . . .

. . some folks are getting virus attachments that seem to come from me. . .

Last week a got an e-mail from a pardette that is on the wire, . . . she'd intened to send me an link to the video of the fellow shooting the .45 auto with his feet . . . but the link that I clicked on in her e-mail was to a Canadian outfit selling discount viagra. I kidded her about getting all her prospective boy friends ready so that when she chose one he'd be all set :FlagAm:

Anyhow . . . I think that is where the problem started. Lase week after I got warnings of junk coming from me ( that people new I would not have sent ) I made sure my anti virus was updated and ran a full scan. On bad thinger was found and eliminated. No more problems reported for several days. OK . . . then yesterday folks letting me know junk was coming like it was from me. Not everyone on my extensive e-mail list is getting garbage stuff, . . just some.

one of the better scanners I have found is Malwarebytes. Have you tried that?

Computer security has been improving but to incorporate the progress we need to move ahead to Win/7 and learn to run with UAC set on MAX**. There should be NO updates to your system except: () when you apply Microsoft Scheduled maintenance* or () when you are installing a software product. any request that pops up un-expectedly -- should be cancelled immediately, if not sooner.

*Scheduled Maintenance is delivered on the 2d Tuesday, each month. Wait 1 day then read the computer news and if there are no bad reports put your maintenance on.

**Microsoft is pushing software developers to mend their ways and write their programs such that they run quiet with UAC set to MAX. IE/8 is supposed to be an example of this.

hopefully the days of Open Range inside the computer are over. even with the best security though scammers will still try to entice people into accepting bad updates and many will succeed. which is why I recommend people know when to expect updates and throw out anything that is un-expected.

Sounds like it may have your password. I'd change it. You may have eliminated the threat from your computer, but they are still using your email account.

+1

I just recently had my e-mail account hacked and it was sending out e-mails for some Chinese liquidator or other things. Change your password for e-mail account is good advice.

If you get this, you simply need to change your email password, restart you puter.. Its a hijacker. It simply highjacks your email password and mails stuff out to your contacts. If everyone does that it will end it in your email circle... Good luck..

What can also happen is that a virus captures someone's address book which may contain your address and then send from there. It then works like a Ponzi scheme and multiplies. Your computer may never have been involved at all.

This has happened to me to the extent that I once received an e-mail from myself!

If the sender is not known to me AND the subject line does not contain something that looks legit - DELETE!

It appears that all that was going out propordedly from me was the viagra advertizement . . . some folks were just mistified, otheres couldn't get the link to open, . . others had thier protection system warn them of it. But apparently just the viagra link and nothing more than that.

One freind that I e-mail to regularly, and who I'd warned, let me know that the same thing ( Viagra link ) had happened to his e-mail account at work.
