  1. I’d a been hitting the Armory. It kinda surprised me they didn’t think of that ahead of time.
  2. Family & Stubbornness; two of the main reasons many Californians cannot or will not leave CA. My daughter, son-in-law and grandson keep talking about leaving California, but they just won’t. They all 3 grew up in CA. They talked of moving to Michigan where my son-in-law’s employer is headquartered. They talked of moving there when my grandson was talking about joining the Navy or the Air Force. Then he decided to become a firefighter and because my grandson is in community college taking a courses in fire sciences my daughter and son-in-law have decided to wait until my grandson is out of college and has a job. I understand why they won’t leave. It is their decision and their lives. I just hope they don’t live to regret not leaving.
  3. I darn near got myself a Savage 555 in 12 gauge for turkey hunting. Instead I actually won a Franchi Affinity 3 12 gauge at a thing they have here called a “Gun Bash”. It’s an event where you buy tickets for $25-$35 and they make drawings every 15 or 30 minutes for guns, ammo, cash, etc. usually the money goes to a charity or a town purchase of a fire truck or ambulance. Gun Bashes usually go for several hours and there are other raffles put on during the main event. It’s a fun time even though I really don’t know anyone here. Mine is an Affinity 3 matte walnut sporter. It does not kick like a mule. It’s a pleasure to shoot. I look forward to your range report once you finally receive your 28 gauge.
  4. @Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 That’s a nice looking shotgun. Congrats! Nice and light in 28 failure should be fun. I am assuming the one you bought is this one: https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gear-gun-supplies/shotguns/savage-arms-stevens-555-compact-black-semi-gloss-28-gauge-2-34in-over-under-shotgun-24in/p/1477463
  5. She’s really fast and efficient.
  6. I think I need to turn it up all the way and break the knob off.
  7. I think the goal is gun and ammo sales, not deer being harder to kill or further away. A couple of years ago my nephews wife was bragging to me about the deer she got with her new rifle. I asked what rifle she had. “Oh, it’s a custom built rifle from (who ever the heck). It’s a tack driver .300 Win Mag.” I said “How far was the deer out there?” ”Oh, maybe 70 yards. That’s about how far it is for all my deer” I said “Holy Sh**! You ever consider a .30-30? It’s a lot cheaper, less recoil and it’ll get the job done at those distances.” She made a face and said “Who want to shoot those old things?” Yeah, she’s a pinhead…
  8. I think that guy Alpo is referring to is just some ‘whipped guy making excuses for buying bigger guns and posting it online so he can say “Look honey, these guys agree that I need a .45!”
  9. I tend to stay away from forums where people ask strange questions…Oh, Wait!
  10. In 2019 I ordered several boxes of bullets from Bear Creek Supply. They shipped in one of those USPS “If it fits it ships” boxes. The postman dropped the box on its corner on the walkway up to my house rupturing 3 of the boxes inside. To be fair that sucker was heavy. 6 boxes of 500 .45 Colt bullets do tend to weigh a bit. The problem was a bunch of the bullet were damaged from slamming into each other. I complained to the post office. They gave me an insurance form to fill out. 3 months later I got a letter that my claim was denied because I don’t have insurance on the package. I went to my post office and told them that I didn’t file for insurance. I just wanted them to know about the incident. I got “the bureaucrat stare” then the “We can’t do anything about this now. You should have reported it sooner”. I uttered a couple of colorful expletives then left before I got myself into trouble
  11. At my reloading bench, of course.
  12. Well, if the comet does hit the events leading up to it and everything that comes with it will be like a Block-Buster movie in real time. Enjoy the thrill!
  13. She sells Hi-Tek Coated Bullets. I have tried several different brands / makers of polymer coated bullets and I don’t like them. When fired they literally smell like moldy baby diapers to me. It must be that the heated polymers give off a smell that I detect as disgusting. I am in a minority according to several bullets sellers and public firing range staffers. Numbers vary in these unscientific opinions but between 1 in 10 to 1 in 20 people smell an offensive odor when firing poly coated bullets. I conducted my own experiments in an indoor range I belonged to in SoCal. I asked people if anyone smelled a “strange stinky or moldy baby diaper smell” after firing a cylinder or two of poly coated bullets and about 1 in 12 said they did. And each one that did said my assessment of a moldy baby diaper smell hit the mark. Probably more information that anyone needed to read on this unsolicited subject.
  14. My sister was telling me about her similar experiences where she and her husband live now. She is saddened by the situation. I told her something like; “It’s the circle of life. We cannot change it. All we can do is help and be supportive where we can, but we cannot forget to live our lives and enjoy every day as it comes. We are not meant to live forever, unfortunately.”
  15. Looks like they have 5 models to choose from. I’m wondering how long it would be before these robots start acting like the women they look like? They can’t reload ammo so I have no reason to justify buying one with my wife. Quite honestly I wouldn’t have the guts to ask.
  16. @Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 What shotgun did you end up buying?
  17. I ordered some rimfire ammo from them a while back. It wasn’t packaged well. I had some damaged boxes. Kind of annoying. I think they need some proper supervision in their shipping department.
  18. Anyone? Any updates or guidance on this issue?
  19. 150 mph in first gear! Holy Cow!
  20. My wife is usually on my left, but as @Rip Snortersaid, on the street I am curbside. In recent months I have found my hearing on the left has deteriorated to the point where I can’t always hear her on my left so I have asked he to stay to my right.
  21. The fastest gun purchase that I made here was 3 minutes. I did call ahead to tell them I was coming to get it. Average time to purchase is about 10 minutes. I do not miss California’s silly laws. I feel for you @Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 I am wondering if all Sportsman’s Warehouses are going to this kiosk type stuff.
  22. So what gun did you order? Got an image? Oops! Never mind. Bass Pro makes you use their kiosk to order your gun if there are none in the store. I told the clerk “You use the kiosk and order my gun. I am the customer. You are the employee.” He said “Sorry, we can’t do that. You will have to do it.” I said “No…I don’t think I do.” and I left. Easy peasy!
  23. 2.3% chance of hitting Earth? I‘ll worry later. I got better things to do now.
