  1. CC: Thank you for the advice. I did not know this and have not begun to file and fit. Thank you. FL
  2. Thanks ya'll. The brass drift and 2lb ball pean did the trick. FL
  3. I have a new Pieta 1851 Navy with a barrel wedge that must have been put in with an arbor press and I can't get it out. I don't want to scratch the finish. I tried a plastic mallet with a hard plastic drift - no effect except to the drift. I have a brass punch which I'm going to try with a 2lb ball peen. Any ideas short of returning it distributor and not destroying it if the brass punch doesn't do it? Thanks, FL
  4. I have an original S&W Breaktop in .44 Russian double action. Is there anyone, besides Chicoine, Gunsmithing Guns of the old west, familiar with it? Mine will not cock on single action as it appears not to catch on the sear (depth shallow) but will rotate the cylinder and fire on double action but does not return the trigger until I pull the slightly to the rear. Someone has removed the sideplate and polished it and probably filed some of it as the plate is loose (which normally is press fit and solid on S&Ws and usually requires a significant tap to loosen for removal) .  With the side plate removed and the hammer pin installed and tight, I can see some play in the assembly.. Since side plates where generally machined and matched to the specific revolver is it possible to find a new sideplate from a Uberti S&W 3 and fit it to tighten it up?

I'm afraid to do any filing on the sear or hammer hooks until I can seat a side plate without play.

    I do have Chicoine's book.

I'm attaching images of the side plate, hammer/sear after firing (trigger not reset) and after slight draw on hammer allowing trigger reset.

    FL

  5. Beartrap - I'll keep you in mind if I can't get one with the red eagle. Used? Price? and for old model Vaquero Bisley?

    \Thanks, FL
