TN Mongo, SASS #61450
My good friend does gunsmithing for Kirst Converters. He needs a supplier of a specific granulated charcoal for case color hardening. His original supplier went out of business and Brownell’s doesn’t carry what he needs. He needs Humphrey’s Charcoal #4 granulated hardwood charcoal. He would like to purchase two 50 lb. bags. He has contacted the company directly, but because he’s not buying a large quantity, they don’t want to deal with him. This granulated charcoal has many other uses including water purification and gardening. Some businesses must be selling this specific charcoal on the retail level, but, in spite exhaustive internet searching, we can’t find it. If any of you know where this is available, any information would be greatly appreciated.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Didn't Humphrey's office have a list of distributors or local vendors? If they had none that they could disclose, they are a VERY poorly run outfit. Humphrey's KNOW where they are shipping their products! good luck, GJ
Will Kane
I wonder if he asked the company for a list of its retailers or distributors.
Rip Snorter
When I was a boy, a friendly pharmacist would get me the ingredients for various fireworks I made. Among the ingredients was a high quality willow charcoal. I'd be surprised if that option didn't exist to this day.
TN Mongo, SASS #61450
The website for the company did not list where their products were available for purchase. When he talked to the company owner directly, he basically was uncooperative in pointing him to a retail source. My friend got the impression that since he was a small operation, the owner didn't think he was worth his time and quickly ended the conversation.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
I think I would be reaching out to Doug Turnbull to see if he has a source for top quality charcoal....Turnbull will surely see the value in Kirst cylinders being made well. good luck, GJ
TN Mongo, SASS #61450
Joe, Thanks for the idea. He did try contacting Turnbull. He didn't get to talk directly to Doug, but was told by someone there that they wouldn't share supplier information. I met Doug a number of years ago at an NRA convention. He struck me as a very nice guy and he was very interesting to talk to.
TN Mongo, SASS #61450
Good news to share! A fellow cowboy on the wire PM'd me the shopify online store website address and we were able to order the charcoal we needed.
