For sale: Soft Lead for casting 98% pure

Recommended Posts

No idea.  Probably a mix of tin and antimony to make it flow better when cast into shapes.  That’s been the recipe for about the last 2000 years

How do you know what the percentage is? Did you have it tested by a salvage yard or something?

I'm basing the value of the mixture on 2 things:  I bought this from a scrapyard who had it tested and stated 98% (it was originally sailboat keel).  To be accurate, I aircooled a cast bullet and tested the hardness myself, can came up with a Saeco hardness of just under 5, which is consistent with published values for 98.5% mix.

Totally off the subject but where did you get that cool lead hardness tester?

Bump for some excellent soft clean lead.  This mix would be great for cowboy guns…Get proper obturation!  Or mix 50:50 with your COWW for everything else
