Archaeologists continue to agree with the basic conclusion of that nearly century-old study, which is that Rome was fortifying its frontier — and the new study brings fresh perspective. Soldiers used to bury their coin pouches before going into battle. I knew a guy (LGS Owner) whose hobby was buying those newly discovered pouches to search for rare coins.
