Subdeacon Joe
A special Sgt Phil's piece for today. Info and photos by Mr. Ian Rigby of the UK One of the largest RML ( Rifled Muzzel Loading) guns ever made This is the 100 ton gun made by Armstrong Whitworth , it has a bore of 17.72 inches and fired a 2000 pound shell up to 3 1/2 miles. The shrapnel shell for this housed 920 balls that weighed 4 oz each ! Reading the info on the engineering drawing the barrel weighs 102 tons And is over 32 feet long ! There is one of these guns in Gibraltar and one in Malta still in working order an occasionally fired. Some were used in pairs on a couple of Italian Battleships. The photo is of the gun at the Napier of Magdala Battery Gibraltar ( thanks to David Stanley for use of the photo ) and thanks to the Royal Gun Factory for the engineers drawing of the gun . Fallon Kid
Good looking gun. I’m into Whitworth rifles and have my own molds. I’m interested, how much you asking?
sassnetguy50
The shipping costs would kill the deal, like many internet sales.
