Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 And then, from "The Way-Back Machine..." Guess who? (He really was a pilot!)
Three Foot Johnson Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 There was an EC-121 "Warning Star" here at the Helena Regional Airport since 1981, used by the Vo-tech A&P mechanic's class. About five years ago, it was decided it would go to the Castle Air Museum in Atwood, CA as part of their static display. The thing was in such good shape, it was even discussed that it might be possible to fly it there, but it was eventually dismantled and put on a fleet of trucks instead. At least three of the engines were operable when it was shipped out, and there was a crapload of parts for it.
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 I flew in the Connie's many times back in the 50s, the last time was in 1959. By then DC8s (Eastern Air Lines) and B707s (Pan American Air Lines) were taking over. I still think it's the most elegant airplane of all.
