Subdeacon Joe Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 June 21, 1834 Rancho Petaluma was deeded to Mariano Vallejo, a 66,622-acre Mexican land grant in present day Sonoma County. Vallejo was born a Spanish subject, served in the Mexican military and helped shape California’s transition to American statehood. PS: Yesterday's post was erroneous so I removed it. The rancho map, below, exemplifies cartography of the time. For more see ThisWeekinCaliforniaHistory.com

"You can pet a cat, and you can pet a dog, but you cannot Petaluma!"
