H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 The recent thread about wanting to shoot something unique inspired me to take some of my more unusual guns to the shoot today. Now, this is what I wanted to shoot... The Lighting in an antique Colt, Costa Rican Army surplus in .44-40 . Sadly, I don't have the bayonet. Now, while I have owned the gun for a while, I have not actually ever fired it. So, before the shoot, I tested it. The results of the test made me realize that it was not gonna be used. So, instead, I used my AWA in the same caliber. The shotgun is a WW Greener, 12 gauge, based on the Martini rifle action. The pistols are Nagants. Now, here's a video of me shooting them! Now, I am not a fast shooter, and these guns, well, the shotgun an Nagants, slowed me down even more. But you know what? I had FUN!
Waimea Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 Nice! Thanks for letting me see the Greener in action. Makes me want to get one all the more. I have a lightning being worked on. It should satisfy my itching for a time.

Then I put 4 the magazine. Chambered the first round, it went bang, and then when I racked back the slide, it did not extract, but it did raise up a new round, essentially jamming the gun. Nothing was locked up, but getting the carrier to go back down with a round on it is not easy. Had to take off the magazine tube to dump the live rounds, and take the stock off so I could get into action. All that that allowed me to get the carrier down and dump the live round on it out. The fired round just fell out of the chamber at that point. Anyway, I figured that it would be wise to have a competent Lightning gunsmith look it over and make sure everything is correct. I could not see if something was wrong with the extractor, but hopefully it's nothing "major." Maybe I short pumped it, but I don't think so.
Dilli GaHoot Galoot Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 There are guns, like a Ruger 10/22 or my Rossi 92, that I will happily rip apart with files, sandpaper or hammers in hand in my best imitation of a kitchen table gunsmith, but I can't imagine myself getting within 10 feet of that Costa Rican Colt with evan a screwdriver!
One Gun Jimmy Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 That Greener may not be for competition being single shot....but I gotta say it's giving me a bit of a chub in the cool department.

I think it is by far my slowest shotgun. But there is something really nifty about using it once in a while. And the way it pings out the all brass shells is just a hoot.
