Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Stumbled on a dvd at the local library with a whole bunch of episodes starting in 1954. Starred Gail Davis as Annie. That girl could ride and handled a six shooter and Winchester 92 like she knew what she was doing. No bad with a lariat, either. And everyone can ride well. Pretty obvious someone took a lot of time training most of the regulars, they just dressed them funny. The first two episodes are typical 1950s Western fare, but actually pretty good. Decent plots, direction, and acting, realistic scenery, and I can overlook the clothing and a lot of the gear they used. I'll watch a few more episodes, maybe the whole lot just for the nostalgia.
Alpo Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I've got a two disc set of that show. Probably three episodes of disc? They gave that poor girl Colt Police Positive Specials with fake ejector rods and fake jigged bone grips, because "she is a little girl with little bitty girly hands and would not be able to handle a great big manly-man gun like the Single Action Army". That's the same reason Dale Evans had Police Positive Specials with fake ejector rods. In one of the episodes I have she is captured by some bad guys, and they take her guns, but a little later she manages to get one of their guns, and Miss Davis seems to do real good with that actual real Single Action Army. Does not look like she has any problems with it whatsoever. Does not look like it's too heavy for her little weak girly arms to hold. And her little short girly thumbs seem to reach the hammer just fine.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Amazing what lots of stunt people can do.

The Colt Nickle Plated Police Positive 38 was made special for Gail Davis by Stembridge, who supplied firearms to movies and television shows. Yes, Gail could handle a Colt SA, but it was also hard because of her small hands and while filming the pilot and seeing difficulty, Gene contracted Stembridge and they recommended the Nickle Plated Colt Police Positive which the outfitted with stag grips and dummy ejector housing, Tom Mix carried 2 ivory handled Police Positives as well as many other early stars and villains.
