Subdeacon Joe
Sad to hear about the passing of Col. Edward Shames, who was the last living officer of the famed Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne. Here he is pictured (left) as a 2ndLt. He jumped into Normandy with I Company and transferred shortly thereafter to Easy after receiving a battlefield commission. He was with Easy during Market Garden and Bastogne. Shames was Jewish and was credited as being one of the first in Easy Company to enter Dachau to liberate it in 1945. He was born in 1922 in Norfolk, Virginia and died there on December 3rd.
