Trigger Mike
Years ago I used to pickle eggs once in a while and forgot how I did it. I remembered I used apple cider vinegar but had forgotten what else, i.e. Salt and if any water. Our chickens have done good lately but won't forever so I thought I'd pickle some eggs. I went on line and I found dozens of recipes . All of them though had onions and other spices and beet juice etc. None sounded good. I hate onions. Why has everyone gone to spicing things up? What happened to.keeping I simple? I figure the pickled eggs will be a good diabetic friendly snack.
Charlie Harley, #14153
I have no clue how my grandma did it, but she made the best pickled beets and eggs. Not helpful, I know, but brought back good memories.
Sedalia Dave
@Subdeacon Joe introduced me to this guy. Here is a 240 year old technique. As stated in the video Beet juice is used to color the eggs as well as impart some flavor. I suspect you could use any food coloring to make them any color you wanted. Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life
We eat quite a few pickles, we also have a few chickens. I take a hard boiled egg and add it to the pickle juice that is left over when the pickles are gone. Keeps well in refrigeration and tastes pretty darned good.
