Thinking of re coating but not sure what varnish or if it's a thinned varnish, etc. Also how would I get the old varnish off without damaging the cch? anyone have any experience doing this ? my thanks in advance
Warden Callaway Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Maybe look on Colt Forum. There has been some discussion about that over there. I don't recall any saying what to use or how to replace. Mostly its like or dislike. https://www.coltforum.com/forums/single-action-army/353583-what-happened-quality-new-3rd-gen-saa-s-8.html# Maybe some info on this link?
Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461 Posted February 20, 2020 Author Posted February 20, 2020 Warden thank you for that link!!
El Hombre Sin Nombre Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Sperm oil is what they used to use. I don't know if that's available anymore. By the way, and this was news to me, Sperm oil is oil from a Sperm whale. It ain't any other kind of oil that might be implied by the name
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Some Lustrum ago, I enquired of a "Quality" manufacturer what was used over the CCH. I was told "Piano Finish" with no elaboration. The manufacturer's representative(s) would not elaborate further.
Cheatin Charlie Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 My friend who has passed away owned a gun case hardening company. When he wanted to cover the finish he used Brownell's Baking Laquer.
