She showed me som pics she'd takesn of Attu and Kiska. In one there was a beached midget sub. She thoughtbit was a water tank and had know idea about the battles there. The First Special Service Force (Devils Brigade) sent troops to the Aleutians with the task force. I was their first combat experience. Never mentioned it in the movie. At least in Montana, we didn't have to contend with fog, just ground blizzards and way-subzero chill factors! And we had better cold weather gear! The FSSF had great winter gear because they were planning a raid on the Norwegian located heavy water plant. But some genius in higher HQ decided winter gear was heavy and would slow the troops down.
