Buckshot Mitchell, SASS 24941 Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Have any of you replaced the firing pin in a Richard Mason conversion? I had the tip of a pin break on one of my 1851's last Saturday. It appears to be a simple job (famous last words) knock out the 2 roll pins and remove the firing pin. Replace with a new one and tap roll pins back in. Thanks, Buckshot
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Answered your own question. It's a simple job ..... until it isn't. Never .. ever .. forget .. Murphy's Law.
Jabez Cowboy,SASS # 50129 Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Easy to do ,,,, Keep track of which hole each pin came out of .... On one out of three Guns. I have done recently the holes were slightly different sizes , one pin would go in either hole ,.,.,. loose in one hole and good in the other ... The other pin would only fit in the top hole .... Buckshot Mitchell, SASS 24941 Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 I think sometimes that I am related to Murphy. Thanks for for the replies, I just might try it.
Jed I. Knight, SASS #36423 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 I’ve done it several times (I’ve got a half dozen of the Richard Mason Conversions). Most of the time it goes pretty darn easy.
