Richard Mason Firing Pin

Recommended Posts

Have any of you replaced the firing pin in a Richard Mason conversion?  I had the tip of a pin break on one of my 1851's last Saturday.  It appears to be a simple job (famous last words) knock out the 2 roll pins and remove the firing pin.  Replace with a new one and tap roll pins back in.

Thanks, Buckshot

Answered your own question.  It's a simple job ..... until it isn't.  Never .. ever .. forget .. Murphy's Law.

Easy to do ,,,, Keep track of which hole each pin came out of ....

On one out of three Guns. I have done recently the holes were slightly different sizes , one pin would go in either hole ,.,.,. loose in one hole and good in the other ...

The other pin would only fit in the top hole ....

I’ve done it several times (I’ve got a half dozen of the Richard Mason Conversions).  Most of the time it goes pretty darn easy.
