Bart Slade
Pulled a real boner this weekend - so here's a "Don't be like me" reminder... Using my sonic cleaner this weekend, set it up to clean some brass...then realized I hadn't deprimed. So no problem, while I'm depriming...I'll just break down one of my 1851 Navys(conversion) and throw the steel parts in to be cleaned. Only I forgot to change the cleaning solution - there's vinegar in my brass cleaning solution. Realized my mistake as soon as I pulled my parts out...shiny steel. So now I have one pistol that isn't blued anymore. And I get to spend next weekend seeing if I can re-blue the gun with the bluing solution I just bought. Spent about 2 hours kicking myself last night
Jailhouse Jim, SASS #13104
I did two of mine to get that old west antique look. I like it.
Fast Enuff
Since you have already found an easy way to remove bluing, you could always try this hand method to do a faux case hardening: If it doesn't work out you can always toss the gun back into your sonic cleaner. Michigan Slim
I cleaned my Vaquero cylinders in my Sonic. I like them white! And believe it or not they don't rust!
Abilene, SASS # 27489
Or get out your flitz and polish it up so it looks like nickle! I knew a guy, Frontier Frank, who would take every gun he bought and flitz it until the whole gun looked nickled, rifle and shotgun as well.
