Grumpy.....

U-2 CT.. 2 seat trainers of which 5 where ordered, 2 were built and delivered.

U-2 D .. 2 seat mission purpose built / 2 delivered.

TR-1B .. 2 seat trainer (redesignated TU-2R) / 2 delivered.

and there was at least one 2 seat purpose built for NASA missions., may have been 2 built.

That makes eight 2 seat U-2 variants that have flown.

There may have been more but these eight can be found in published articles.

I say more than these 8 because my information was published in Aug 2004.

Not all are still flyable, or so I've been told by my neighbor, who was a very big part of the U-2 building back in the day. He later moved over to the SR-71 program.

The blue and white NASA U-2 we both see out here is a 2 seater. The other I've been told is in storage at EAFB.

THX Cliff for the info :excl:

U-2 Crash

When they were reporting the accident on one local news station that I was watching they said both pilots ejected safely and the crawler on the bottom of the screen told what really happened. Sad news indeed.
