If your gonna get a J frame snub nose style just get it chambered in 38spl and load +P ammo in it. The .357mag was designed to give those ballistics out of a 6" barrel, so your just trading the extra velocity away for more recoil and a more difficult fallow up shot. Maybe in the 30s and 40s when it was developed you needed a 6" barrel to get the ballistics it was designed for. However, with the ammo today geared for defense, I would say that is not quite the case. As for recoil, a +P 38 in those tiny, lightweight guns is not for the faint of heart.
