How's the quality and quality control of Colt 1911s these days? I saw one just from the factory opened up by a customer and the rear sight fell of. The customer opted to have the dealer send it back and get a different one.

I've purchased 3 Colts over the last several years, including a Series 70 1911, a Commander, and an M4A1 carbine. Quality is second to none.

A fairly recent build of a Series 70 Govt model (maybe built in 2011) has been very nice. Tight, accurate. No quality issues, but all the edges were sharp and a little work with a scraper brought them down to "defarbed" state.

Just for comparison, new built Ruger's 1911s have had the front sight shear off many times, from reports on various Ruger forums.

It happens to most guns occasionally.

Good luck, GJ

I bought a "replica" of a WW1 1911. Got it home and looked at it close. The slide looked like it had been finished with course sand paper and then blued. Sent it back and they corrected it! Why did it leave Colt that way?

this one was the 1991 commander model. The customer had ordered it and so no one had touched it before him to break it. oh well.
