Rye Miles #13621
Buffalo is about 4-5 hours NE of here, the storm stayed north of us and although we had temps in the high teens yesterday we missed the snow. We've got about 3" from a couple days ago. It's gonna be 35 degrees here today!!!! 50 on Sunday!!! Whoooweeee, get out the shorts and t-shirts! Subdeacon Joe
Don't those people know that snow is something you drive a few hours to get to, play in for a few hours, then drive away from?
Sedalia Dave
Other than the idiots that were too stupid to stay home during a blizzard what's the big deal? Doesn't this happen every few years in the New England states? Heck anything less that 24 inches of snow in Buffalo isn't even worthy of the front page. Gee Wizz I remember flying into Brunswick Maine on an EP-3 in January of 1998 and landing in the middle of an ICE STORM. Entire state of Maine was coated in ice. Runway was steam heated so no problem landing but the ramp was a solid 2 inches of ice. First guy down the ladder fell right on his ass when he got to the ramp. Hanger bay door were frozen shut so 4 of us took turns for the next 3 hours lying on a frozen wing changing out a bleed air valve so that we could take off the next morning. When we got to the hotel it was one of the few places that had a backup generator so at least we had lights and heat. Applebees a block away also had power. Place was packed but using our heads and taking turns at two tables all 23 of us managed to get a hot meal. Didn't leave the next day as runway finally iced over and the AC commander decided not to risk it. We raided the Package store and drank beer and played cards the rest of the day. Base got the ice cleared off by the following morning and we took off for Rota where we spent the night. Next day with a gas and go in Creete we finally made it to Bahrain. Harvey Mushman
"temps below freezing in all 50 states" The obvious problem is those d%^* global warming deniers! 19 years of no warming so far, record hurricane inactivity....etc... Stubborn Dutchman, SASS # 61363
Buffalo got another 3 feet of snow today! They are trying to clear out 8 feet of snow! The National Guard has been pulling people out of trailer parks as several house trailers have collapsed under the weight of the snow. So far 10 people have died, a mix of heart attacks and exposure. Rt. 90, is still closed and hundreds of truckers are stuck in truck stops as they can't move. More are stranded in their vehicles on the Thruway. Hundreds of plows, bucket loaders and dump trucks are headed towards Buffalo to help move the snow out of the city. But the worst is yet to come. Sunday it's supposed to reach 60 degrees. Roofs not cleared of snow will be collapsing. And today USGS said this year is headed towards being the hotest this planet has ever been.
