Captain Clark
Have access to a fair amount of Tin Star powder, but the loading info is pretty sparse for cowboy power level loads, especially with the 180 / 200 grain bullets in 45 Colt. I am interested if anyone has worked with it on a chronograph? It seems to not be very popular, that's what I'm guessing.
Anvil Al #59168
I tried it. Found the same problem. The company was of NO help at all. I still tired it. Made some loads that worked. Found it to be so dirty and nasty that I gave the 3 pounds of it I had away.
Earl Brasse, SASS #3562
There was an article in "Handloader" about it. It looks like it would not be good for what you're trying to load. It seems like the powder is good, with very low shot deviation, BUT not for making low-velocity. light bullet weight, "Cowboy" rounds. It liked heavier bullets & higher velocities than many Cowboys like to shoot. Lower velocities gave poor results. They only listed the loads that gave the best results for example: 38 Spec. 150 gr 847 fps 44-40 Win 200 gr 793 fps 44 Russian 250 751 fps 45 S&W 230 gr 750 fps 45 Colt 250 gr at 842 fps. I have some, but have not loaded any as I shoot BP. I figure the loads look like they would be good compared to full-case BP.
Lead Ringer
I won a can of it at EOT last year. I've recently loaded some 45LC w/200gr bullet for wild bunch. I'll be shooting them at WR in a couple of weeks:) It loaded great out of my 650. And seems consistent at WB velocity. I didn't try lower velocity loads as I don't shoot 45's in cowboy. Dan Diamond, SASS #61820L
Load several different scenarios and then go chronograph them. Took me awhile to get a load that would work for .38's. My wife's loads. Haven't shot a match yet with them.
