Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 One of the claimed benefits of using Slix Shot nipples is the ability to use a lighter main spring because the back pressure of the charge firing is diffused by the side vents on the nipple. So, after outfitting an 1851 Navy with a set of Slix Shots, I equipped it with a Wolff reduced power main spring to put the theory to the test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB3ZKccjEmQ
Noz Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I use the lightened main spring for an 1873 with good effect.
Rowdy Yates, SASS #141 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Mike, Thanks for all you do. Of course there are many that would say, "one more hammer strike would do it" but then that's not the point is it. Rowdy
Lefty Dude, SASS # 51223 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I run the Wolff light springs, Slix-Shot nipples on all my 51 & 60 pietta's with no issues. Sorry to see you have a problem.
Capt. George Baylor SASS#24287L Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Reminds me of one of the many reasons I shoot Ruger Old Armies. I am using the SliX-Shot nipples and the lightest Wolf Old Model Vaquero springs that will work on each gun. Three of the four will work with 17 or 18 pound springs. The main match guns work as flawlessly as any cartridge revolver I have. Proof of that was that I shot End Of Trail and Railhead consecutively clean. I also did that with a torn biceps tendon on my shooting arm.
Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Ouch! That must have hurt George.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Mike, I've had very good results with "Lee's Gunsmithing Gunfighter" springs as well as VTI Gunparts reduced Main Springs in Pietta cap guns. Although, my own personal Piettas are cap suckers even with Slixshot. There going to Lee's Gu smithing for Cap Guards Coffinmaker
