Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 For the last few years I've been using my 1873s in CAS matches while my '66 has been gathering dust. So I thought it would be fun to show it a little love. Though you won't see it on this video, at the end of the day the screw that holds the barrel band/front sight tight broke, sending my point of impact all over the place. I ordered a new band/screw from Long Hunter, I I should have it back in action soon.
Lone Dog, SASS #20401 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Nuther good 'un Mike. Keep 'em comin'. New shooters pay attention. Don't do like ole school Mike or me. Make sure the rifle is seated and locked into the "pocket" BEFORE levering. Never lever at waist level. Some ranges even strictly forbid it. Do not wrap the thumb around the wrist. This was one of the hardest things for me to learn as I had to overcome decades of muscle memory to be able to do it.
Rooster Ron Wayne Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Good Video Mike . I love the looks of the 66. I just dont like the comb of the stock. So I just keep plunking along with my 92s.
Rye Miles #13621 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Love these videos Mike, keep 'em coming is right! I have a 66 in .44-40, great little rifle. Rye
Jerkline Jesse, SASS #64073 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 My first toggle link was a '66 Carbine. I eventually moved to a '66 Short Rifle, as I like the extra weight of the octagonal barrel for multi-taps. The carbine was a dandy little gun though. Only thing about '66s, the loading gate is a weak point. Most cowboy smiths reinforce it.

But if your recommendation is based toward competitive reasons? I have to disagee. I feel that levering while lifting the rifle to your shoulder is accomplishing TWO things in the same span of time that the shoulder first THEN lever shooter is only accomplishing ONE. When my stock hits my shoulder - I am ready to fire. When the stock of the "seat first" shooter hits their shoulder - they are not. They still have another function to accomplish before they can shoot - time wasted. Strictly my opnion.
