Cheap pipes, such as Kaywoodie & Dr. Grabow are made by injection molding briar sawdust & epoxy. Drug store tobaccos such as Cherry Blend and Captain Black have preservatives and are bought by the chain stores by the boxcar load and stored in a warehouse until ordered by store. Then it may sit on the shelf, getting stale for 6 months before it's sold. Lil Brown Smoke Shack is on the Yakima Indian Reservation so you don't pay fed or state tobacco taxes. It's the lowest price tobacco I've found. They are also CAS shooters and make stag grips. Give em a call. As far as pipes get a nice briar. I also have a buffalo head meerscham that I like. As for tobacco, most everyone will like a good aromatic. Except for hardcore pipe smokers, stay away from English blend tobaccos, which contain latakia. It's very strong, and does not endear the smoker to those around him.
