Cope, give this site a try. http://www.cemp.com/chains.htm Then scroll down & click on fixins. I've bought a couple from them. Another excellent source for fobs is antique stores, specially the antique "malls" that have several small vendors. But don't be afraid to haggle with them. I've found that many antique dealers haven't a clue as to what they have & the value. Sometimes you can find some excellent buys & sometime you can get skinned. On the weekends that you're not shooting you may want to try estate sales & garage sales. They can be good sources. But you have to get there early before the antique dealers get the cream of the crop. Estate sales can be a good source for guns too.

Here are a few watch drops (not fobs) to give you an idea. Just about anything will work, e.g. a trinket, a locket, a small medallion. One of mine is a stone artifact from the Lazy Bob Ranch. One is my old high school key. The elk's tooth is from a great-great uncle who lived in Grace, Idaho. I picked up the smaller elk's tooth at a gun show. The Buffalo Skull medallion is an old Mormon Scouting award. The little gold cherub trinket is one of four that my mother had on her charm bracelet many years ago. Just use your imagination.

Oh almost forgot...years ago, after I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I actually had one dangling from my watch chain for a while. I don't know where the thing went. My wife probably came across it and threw it away. Dang...it's hard to keep hold of quality stuff nowadays.

Here is one I wear now. It is one of Will Ghormley's "Hand of God" crosses. I also have one in sterling silver with a silver watch. (the buckle is one of Will's in sterling)

Although I don't smoke any more, I use a cheroot cutter as a fob or an antique mourning locket I got off of ebay. I also use a match safe from time to time.

Slim has some great fixings. My wife got a chain for my watch. It was long enough to go clear around me (well, nearly!), so I bobbed it, got extra end bits, and now have two watch chains.

A Real oldie..

This belonged to my Grandpa. (for those that are new and are not aware, the design is NOT a Swastika, The indians used it long before the the Germans got hold of it....It is sometimes called a "whirrling log" and some folks here may be able to give a better history.

My mom used to embroider these designs and had to quit doing it during the war because folks got real up tite. It is a really cool piece.

hope you enjoy it

Cope,

I purchased a mid 1800's pocket watch some years ago when I started reenacting. Gold watch and quality heavy chain with a fob that is a gold civil war type canteen set in a Masonic type cross so it pivots at its mount. On one side of the canteen is U.S. in large raised letters and on the reverse side says Gettysburg. Ebay has many watch fobs to offer and I have seen this canteen of mine on their site. Sometimes you cannot tell of quality from their pictures but this is a fob I have had many people ask about. Some of my local pards have old 2 cent coins, brothel tokens, and especially anything railroad that looks old enough. Half the satisfaction sometimes is in the hunt...

I have an original coin from Dewey’s return to the US after defeating the Spanish fleet, has the USS Olympia on one side. You can find these pretty easy on eBay.

I also have a set of reproduction CSA coins in case I ever want to drill a hole in the top of one and make a fob out of that, as you’d likely see such a thing after the War of Northern Aggression was over (as any CSA money would be worthless by then), assuming they’d ever produced coins in any amount, which they did not. These sets are easy to find online with a Google search.
