Dusty Balz, SASS#46599
This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX 18Nov2010 Put me in charge ... Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job. Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job. Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place. In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good." Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem. If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices. Complicated Lady
I agree whole heartedly! If a person has no self esteem or work to be proud of...they have no hope. I love my job.
Foul Mouth Frank Shutz
Considering the number of people in this country that have been unemployed as long as the current resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has been in office, I don't doubt that the line to get into those barracks would be pretty long. Bring back the CCC, put them to work. Keep them from forming new gangs while they clear the brush in Yellowstone and we'll all be better off. Get them their GEDs and trade certifications at night and in two years they'll be qualified to get a real job. Imagine trained carpenters and electricians building our houses. Doc Cherokee, SASS#48332
A good friend of mine that was active in local pollyticks once told me about a lawyer that actually taught classes to unwed teenage mothers about how to "work the system"..How to get welfare and other government assistance, food stamps, ect..Also how they could get more money and assistance simply by having more babies.. Sounds so adsurd as to almost be illegal..But this guy wasn't one to make stuff up, and this was back in the late '80's..Probably got worse since then. If it was set up similar to what the writer in Waco described, if those people had to actually DO SOMETHING to earn the assistance, many of them, if not most of them would probably go out and get legitimate jobs..More money in that! Wild Will Bartell
I found myself in mixed company at dinner once. The topic of 'Public Assistance' came up and certain of the company wondered aloud why I was so against helping people that 'need' it. My reply was two-fold: >If you want welfare, take a pi$$ test. If you flunk - no money. No Exceptions. > I have no problem helping people who 'can't'(do for themselves). I REFUSE to help people who 'won't'. Dinner ended early that day...
