  1. I suppose it could be worse. They could require the troops to wear a pickelhaube. Some special units wear the tricorn.
  2. Yep, on the garrison hats. Those kepi hats made everybody look like Fidel Castro.
  3. Wouldn't that be something. Wonder if Antarctica was there when the dinosaurs were around and also if it was a deep freezer then. Dinosaur popsicles.
  4. With the new administration in DC., maybe the DoD will bring back the old garrison caps for the Army line troops. Oh well, it is hopeful. ED: And forbid that the Kepi ever be allowed to be worn.
  5. I noticed one of the rifles had an open breach. It looked to be a Garand, but it may have been an M14. IIRC a sailor was toating it, so I would guess it was a locked back M1. Perhaps the open breach was for safety and security reasons. Although S/Sgt. Buxton trusted me and my rowdy friends to close the bolt for parade ground work.
  6. You bouys have frozen your brains, being so far nort. The real winner is down in St. Louis.
  7. Congratulations to you and your family. Those new ones are so much fun. After they get about a year and half of seasoning, they come up with the doggonest things. Enjoy the heck out of him.
  8. I thought the sky was falling, but no. Apparently the earth is breaking up. Just read where a chunk ice in Antarctica is about to fall off and that today six more miles were added to the crack. One more thing to worry about. But there is a good side to it. Think of all the drinks you could ice down with that much ice.
  9. I saw a few M1 Garands on the streets of Washington D.C. today. AND a few M14's.
  10. When women looked like women and men looked like gentlemen? I miss those days also, Kris. I recall my Dad telling me to shine my shoes. Said that no matter how shabby you dressed, if you had shined shoes you looked like a gentleman. We were shoe people. My Dad, his Brother, my Uncle, and my Grandfather, all made shoes at one time or another. I just wore them. My Grandfather made me a pair of boots, when I was around 7 or 8. The laced all the way to the top and had a small pocket knife and scabbard attached. I mean I was hot stuff. My Cousin got a pair also. We were tuff.
  11. I tend to think that way, J Bar. Maybe it never did. History has lost a lot of it's luster also, since I have aged and had more experience in the world.
  12. I am still trying to figure out why women want to look and dress like men? I think women are much prettier and I thought, smarter. Maybe not so much. But then again, probably nobody cares what an old man thinks, except the old man.
  13. Just an old fossil, I guess, I don't handle change very well. I trust my VIRTUAL 1911 and I suspect that is all I will ever need.
  14. A fellow always needs resupply, Forty Rod. What is a fellow supposed to do when the glass is no longer half full, but EMPTY!
