I began CAS in October of 2000 with the Nason Mining Company Regulators, shot 2 matches then joined SASS and the Nason club. When I started I had been watching the Rough Riders movie and ended up buying an actual uniform (Lt. Goodrich's) from the movie complete with one of Gary Busey's hats to start my SASS journey.
At NMCR I was an active club member and club director, helping to write scenarios, set-up and tear down. We hosted a couple of annual shoots at the old Nason Mine, the last one in 2002 which drew 175 entries, with 152 shooters in attendance including Judge Roy Bean and Justice Lily. West Creek Willie and I wrote the stages based on Tombstone, to this day I still have people bring that shoot up and tell me what fun they had.
NMCR lost the mine in 2003. We were offered the use of the Centralia Trap Club near Sandoval. The NMCR club declined the offer, but one of the officers of NMCR came to me and wanted to take them up on it and start a 4th Saturday Match as there were none in the area at the time. So Shell Stuffer, Les Hitts, Russell N. Longhorns, Railroad Bill, Ellie Oakley and myself formed the Marion County Renegades in February of 2003 and have been going strong ever since. I do the stages and props, and help with teardown and set-up, and I also got suckered into keeping the finances.
I am also a President and TG of the Lakewoods Marshals in Cisne Illinois. I write the stages, arrange targets, help build props, help with scoring as needed, and take care of the website. LAKEWOODS MARSHALS
In 2007 and 2012 I worked the SASS booth at the NRA convention in St. Louis. I had a ball and signed up several new members during my shift.
I was Range Master for the 2007 and 2008 Illinois State Championships, designed the book art, and wrote the stages for the 2008 match.
I have won my category in several state matches, with quite a few 2nd place finishes also. My personal best was winning the Classic Cowboy category at the 2007 Guns of August Midwest Regional against a tough field of 24 other Classic Cowboys. Cowboy action shooting is a great activity and I have met some truly wonderful people.
I was presented my Regulator Badge by a host of friends from several of the area clubs in 2009.
The categories I shoot are Classic Cowboy, Gunfighter, Duelist, Frontier Cartridge Duelist, and Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter.
I shoot Duelist style using a Murphy Custom Leather Gunfighter rig made for me by Persimmon Dan.
