Shooting, reloading for a Marlin 92 in .32

Recommended Posts

Not too long ago, someone gave me a whole buncha old ammo.   Among many other things was a full box of .32 Long Colt, a few loose rounds of .32 Short Colt, .32 Long Colt and a buncha loose rounds of .32 Rimfire.

Well...

This was an excuse to obtain a .32 caliber Marlin 92.  The one I found has the centerfire firing pin, which of course, it .32 Long/Short Colt.   It does not have the rimfire firing pin.   I have not decided if I will get the RF pin so I can shoot this ammo, or if I will sell it to an ammo collector.

But, I obviously plan to shoot centerfire ammo in it.   The full box is Winchester ammo, jacketed, inside the case ammo.   Most of the loose stuff is heeled ammo.  I've got the CH4D dies and some .300" bullets.   I understand that the heel base/inside the case diameter bullets of old were .299", so I am eager to see how these will work.   They are not hollow based, but I figure at SASS distances, that won't matter too much.   (I almost was able to get a Colt Pocket Positive in the caliber with more ammo with the smaller bore, but that fell through...)

Anyway, to any pards out there who may have one of these guns and who shoots it on occasion and reloads for it, I would like to pose the following questions.

1.  Do you load .313" heeled bullets or .299" inside the case ones?
2.  If they latter, do they have a hollow base.
3.  If yes, where did you find them, or did you have to cast them yourself?

4.  If they don't have a hollow base, how do you find the accuracy in the larger bore?

5.  How many rounds of Long/Short Colt does the gun hold in the magazine?

6.  There is no question number 6.  (Bonus acknowledgement if you know why.)
7.  If you have the .32 RF pin, have you ever fired the gun with RF ammo?

8.  I know reproduction CF pins are on the market.   Are RF pins obtainable?   I've not been able to find one yet.

9.  Does anyone make brass or am I gonna be limited to finding old ammo for it?

10.  Does Winchester still make the .32 Short Colt ammo?  (I've read contradictory answers of yes, no, and only for sale in Europe where the round is much more popular and new guns are still available)

I appreciate any answers that people who own and shoot one of these interesting old guns can provide.

You might want to take the buttplate off to see if the previous owner stored the rimfire firing pin in the hole in the stock.

I read on a forum that more than one person did that & got lucky.

     *   No one makes the brass other than those companies that lathe turn custom brass.

     *   I believe there is/was someone on Gun Broker that was swaging etc etc forming it but $$$ as a PITA job.

*I think they also sold heel-base & maybe hollow base bullets.

Sometimes the 92 will chamber 32 S&W.

A friend his 92 will except 32 S&W, mine wouldn't.

I had mine rechambered to 32 S&W. Nice little shooter.

Numerick arms has rimfire firing pins.

I load a 100 gr bullet .313 diameter, 2.9 gr clays.
