Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 A great video from Jay Leno’s Garage series. It’s worth an hour of your time if you like steam locomotives. I’ve stood next to this very train when it comes through Kansas City. It’s just amazing.
Tooky Slim Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Iii I apologize in advance, but I thought this was the largest "STEAMER" in the world
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 There was a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy at the Pomona Fairgrounds.....maybe the last one still in existence. Lord, it was huge, but I seem to remember that there was a South African steam loco that was longer and heavier, but not nearly as powerful. I was there (made a special effort to take a day off and drive the three miles east) the day it was hauled away to be restored up in Cheyenne IIRC. What a disgrace. The big old darling was towed off by diesels . I never saw it again, but know several people who paid to ride it when they got it up and running again. They show up my local model R.R. club once in a while with some amazing videos.
