Do they still mark US weaponry GOVERNMENT PROPERTY?

Watching the TV show, where they have recovered a bunch of stolen military weaponry, and the remark is made, "has US GOVERNMENT stamped all over it".

My initial thought was that was idiotic. Then I remembered my 1917 pistol that is stamped US PROPERTY. 1911s and 1911 A1s were stamped US PROPERTY. The Army single actions were stamped US.

I'm too lazy to go look at my Krag, my Garand and my carbine.

And the newest of them is 80 years old.

So I'm wondering about current. Buncha M9s? Or M4s? Do they have US GOVERNMENT stamped on them somewhere?

No.   They don't so mark them anymore.   Believe it or not, I recall reading that the Army didn't want to be making "instant collector's items" with said markings anymore.   As I recall, the very earliest M-17's did have a US or something on them, and the Army politely asked them to not do that anymore.  I have seen GI M9's.   They are not marked.  Dunno about anything else.
