Long Gun Preacher Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Just a note to say thank you to all the pards who assisted in teaching me about the 1873 carbine I am happy to say that thanks to your help, I was able to largely fix the issue-this is a great forum!

Long Gun Preacher Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 Larsen-I was able to fix the carrier issue-it appears that it was primarily the lifter spring rather than the carrier spring-I guess that I have been so hornswoggled by this thing that I hesitate to say it is completely fixed!
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Lifter spring and carrier spring are two different names for the same thing. It is the one on the loading gate side of the gun. The spring on the other side is the lever spring, which keeps the lever closed or open. If that one gets loose, the lever will start hanging down when closed and won't stay fully open when opened and you let go of it. The lever spring doesn't affect the carrier.
