Found on FB. I couldn't get them in the proper order.

A few people have asked, what exactly constitutes a section?

So here is a quick overview.

Excerpted from the manual,

Instruction for Field Artillery, 1861
French, Barry & Hunt

(A typical 'textbook-strength' mounted light artillery section)

Having served in the Field Artillery, I know that it behooves each chief to be prepared for a manpower shortage. It looks like at the least each piece could do with one less driver, or the chief of piece, gunner, or chief of caisson could assume the lead driver position.

When the piece is set and prepared for action, each of them must have a job, is there a set job for each position?

#1 - Wet sponge and ram.

#2 - Worm, dry sponge, insert cartridge (or powder bag and projectile).

#3 - Serve (stop) the vent. Also moves to the handspike (trailspike) for pointing the piece.

#4- Inserts primer, discharges piece.

#5 - Powder Runner, brings munitions from loading table (limber chest) to #2.
#6 & 7 - At loading table to prepare charges and call off elevation from Table of Fire.
