"Big Boston"
I had a nice 38-55 a few years ago and enjoyed it. I had brass @ 2.129, most at 2.085, and a few that had been trimmed to 375 length of 2.020. In my '94 i never noticed much difference between them all for 1600 to 1800 fps loads. I can see it being a factor with single shot target rifles or if you load black, but if you don't mind, can you explain the advantages of one over the other. Another 38-55 is not at the top of my bucket list, but it's in there. Pretty impressive vintage caliber. BB
Texas Jack Black
This is a 94 Winchester of 1896 vintage If you go to the Starline Brass site there is an explanation as to why the longer brass in some instances.

"Big Boston"
A pretty in-depth read if I got the right article. IMHO, not something I'd overthink, The 12º funnel that is at the transition from the chamber to the rifling will take care of that. The 2.125 cases are available, you may as well use them, won't hurt. Most cowboys shoot 38s in their 357s and 45CS in their 45 Colts and nary bat an eye. Another example is 458 Win Mag in a 458 Lott. I didn't do a bunch of testing, but the little I did didn't warrant buying any more of the 2.125. Mine was a Saskatchewan Commemorative, and the biggest issue was getting a 379 cast bullet. I bought several, and the LEE 379-250-RF was better than most of my other bullets. 375296 wasn't far behind. Some commercial were the best. Several 375248 were dismal, too small. NOE expanders were a real help.
Texas Jack Black
Early 94 has .379 bore and shoots the longer case the best .The shorter case gives poor accuracy in most early original guns.
Marshall Mike
Had to use Starline, thinner, to get .381 bullet into chamber, 1885 hi-wall Uberti.

Exactly! Same solution with my old 94.
