Dantankerous
Today I handled a new Winchester 1886 take down in 45-70. Nice gun! This one has the short barrel, about 20". Gorgeous color case and beautiful wood. I cannot however find much info on this, even on Winchester's site. Anyone know more about this gun? I looked at a Pedersoli 86/71 last week and it was a superb rifle as well. The Pedersoli's action was definitely much smoother than this Winchester had. The stiff action on the Winchester kind of surprised me for a gun at that price.

JD Lud
Dan I blame you….So I had just found these and watched them go, the. You had to post about them… then a true auction for one was just about 2,000 so I hit buy it now darn it. I’ve been wanting one for a few years and missed out at 1,400 for a non takedown…bit the bullet and just since you just had to keep me thinking about it
Dantankerous
JD Lud, The specs you listed are for the gun I saw, I believe. And you bought one. You're welcome. I'm ponderin' that move too. It was a very nice rifle. And I do like the 45-70...

Kid Rich
The stiffness may have to do with springs. I have an original 86 and the springs are very stiff. kR

Dantankerous
I go back to the store today to look at the rifle and I just missed it. In fact I missed 2 of them. Same guy bought both shortly before I got there.
